Committee Consensus-building Case Scenario
An EHR system has been installed with functionality that will allow most HIM department processes to be performed by the staff remotely. In addition, space in the HIM department has become an issue. The department currently has four supervisors of the following areas:
- Record processing (analysis, completion, scanning)
- Coding
- Transcription
- Release of Information
The HIM Director has been asked by Administration to consider having HIM staff work remotely. She is looking for a consensus among the HIM management supervisors for this recommendation.
The Coding and Transcription Supervisors have expressed positive reactions to have their employees work remotely. The Record Processing and ROI Supervisors think that working remotely will decrease productivity and increase security risks, along with other issues.
- Present a positive or negative argument for each of the four Supervisors that might express their opinions for and against remote workers. (In other words, present two arguments for each side – for and against).
- Propose a plan of action that might achieve a consensus among the four supervisors.
Submit a Microsoft Word document with one page of content, double spaced, 12 font, and a title page and reference page. Use at least one source for reference.
